The
Bergerac region is often called "Gateway to the
Périgord" but its inhabitants usually call it Dordogne but they divide it into
Purple Périgord for vineyards, White, for limestone, Green for its fields and
Black for its forests. It's a land of vineyards, sunflowers, tobacco and picturesque
gorges with forest clad cliffs crowned by ruined castles. Périgueux,
the capital, is a lovely city with a medieval heart overlooking
the River Isle. Sarlat is known for its honey coloured
Renaissance town centre. There is good fishing, boating, kayaking, and cycling.
There are many golf courses and the best known being Chateau des Vigiers near
Sainte Foy La Grande (18 holes) only 30 minutes from Bergerac. |
