Evros The
earliest indications of life in the area of Greek Thrace were found by chance
in the area of Ormenion and Krios, near the river Evros. These are part of a jawbone
of a mastrodon, which have been dated between three and five million years B.C.
The capital is Alexandroupolis, a beautiful
city with a pleasant street layout and a significant port of Nort Greece. On the
border with Turkey, the river Evros flows peacefully. A continuous presence from
Ancient Times, the Byzantine age and today, pours into the Aegean Sea after forming
its famous Delta, a rare and significant hydrobiological site in Europe. Over
200000 aquatic birds hibernate in the areas of the Delta, and among the 300 species
many are threatened with extinction. The forest of Dadia is a cradle of life where
rare types of predators nestle protected. From Mesimvria and Makri to Alexandroupolis
much frequented holiday centres are situated, such as, hotels, camping sites,
beaches and seafood-tavernas. |
